A Call to honour....

So they called us again. Whether it’s a high profile shootout, a child in a borewell, a terrorist attack, floods, earthquakes army is called. Army is no longer meant for protecting the borders, of late, the country needs us everywhere. We clear up the mess and in the bargain lose our soldiers too, but what after that? Once the crisis is solved we are again lost in the oblivion. But, why? Why is the government, the politicians and the common man so afraid to come out in the open and acknowledge that in the current terrorist turmoil our defence forces are their safest bet?

In times like these, what the country need is a deeper and more meaningful alliance between the civil administration and the army of the area even of the smallest of the city. This will help immensely in nourishing the now heavily tattered soul of India. Now they call us when the situation is completely out of their hands. If we have a better association then any crisis would be solved in a much simpler way without losing so many lives. These simple steps will make the atmosphere conducive and the citizens secure. Further it will also help in us attaining our most basic right to leave in peace.

How much our politician may differ but what a common Indian needs today is a safe today. I spoke to a very senior retired army officer and he said “Army is supposed to be non-partisan; national in character, patriotic, professional, and disciplined how it relates to civil society in general will help immensely in the civilian set up. Obligations on both the sides will contribute to the common good by performing duties to benefit the community as a whole. This association I believe will complement each other.” During a time when every citizen of Indian is thinking of the corrective measures to be taken, I think this is the best we can do, right now…….

Yes it is comforting to know that they will be there....

....inspite of a disappointing Pay Commission that pushes them closer and closer to economic doom. A Jawan earns in a month, less than what would have been spent at a meal at the Taj or Leopolds's.

---inspite of undergoing a minimum of 9 relocations over 20 years, with most of them being eitherat the borde or in cities where counter insurgency operations are on

...inspite of bungling bureaucrats who still cannot give our solde=iers the right equipment whether they be full body armour, night vision devices, reote controlled probe cameras, GPS systems.... the bureaucrats and politicians have to have these long drawn out tendering processes you see, to justify their salaries as also kickbacks.

....inspite of the psychological truama of long term seperation from families, seeing your comrades dying in front of you and the uncertainity (particularly for those in Kashmir) of whether you will get past the day.

It makes my blood boil. We give our men in unfiorm the due credit only when they die.... what about when they are alive!!!!

Yes, this Unsolved Question mark must be erased from the country named INDIA. And 1,132,648,204 INDIANS will have to do this.

Hiii,
Good one. We think that the basic needs of a common man are food, home, education etc.... why we forget about security. Every citizen of our country wants to be SAFE. We feel we are safe, just because of our army, our soldiers.
But the civil body of our country is full of corruption. Our so called leader "Netas" are busy in blame-shame game and constantly trying to be in Power. For it they are ready to do anything which compromise with country and civilians or aam janta.
Today they have dozens of security man, but a common man doesn't have a single one.
Ok, I agree, they are policymakers and need tight security for country sake, but it’s their duty to think about the country and civilians, their security.
Today home minister resigned in the name of "social responsibility", what rubbish. He realizes his responsibility when the bullshit terrorists attacked in our home and take hundreds of lives. Shame-Shame.
They are not Hero, they are just dummy, our Real Hero’s are our security men, who are always there, when need.
Salute to all Soldiers!!!

No doubt, if there is an alliance between civil administration and armed forces, the situation will be better and less number of precious lives will be lost. I agree with Wg Cdr (Retd) SM Shukla that there are a number of right thinking persons in civil administration who will be useful in such an alliance. The whole nation salutes our soldiers who are there in every critical situation to save the nation- now and always.

But, the question you have raised that where are these soldiers after such operations are over- does not sound appropriate at this time. They are in the hearts of the millions of people. They love them, hail them, respect them and pray for them. What is more important than that!!!! Remember the respect a soldier gets whenever he travels with his fellow countrymen in a train. I have seen this since my childhood. I had a friend who was a Captain in JK Light Infantary. He laid down his life fighting against terrorists in Kashmir Valley. I still remember him with respect and moist eyes.

The only thing is- we should not depend upon our politicians any more.

I agree that a meaningful alliance is required between bureaucracy and that Armed Forces to provide effective governance and for effective security of the country . Can we not take a lead and open a dialogue with the IAS , IPS lobby towards this . I am sure there are a number of right thinking persons amongst them . They must be made to understand that in any democracy there is the legislative wing , which lays down policies and then there is the executive wing which executes those policies . Civil bureaucrats and the armed forces belong to the executive cadre ; for that matter we are bureaucrats in uniform. One part of the executive cadre can not be superior to the other . Civil supremacy means supremacy of the legislative wing , the elected members,as they are supposed to represent the will of the nation( though in the present context where the are getting elected with 10-20-at the most 25% of popular votes do they really represent will of the nation is point to debate )Thats why there has to be meaningful alliance between us and bureaucrats.
